Mistake 16: funny or fun?

“Funny” is an adjective that means “gracioso/ cómico” (although it can also mean “raro/extraño” as in “I have a funny stomach“- here it means that you are not feeling very well, there’s something wrong with your digestion).

Example: The film was very funny (La película era graciosa, te hizo reír)

“Fun”  means “divertido/ diversión/placentero” as in “to have fun“. So the use of “funny” with the meaning of “divertirse” is WRONG.

Example: The party was very funny (La fiesta fue muy graciosa)// The party was great fun (La fiesta fue muy divertida)
