Mistake 14: ‘the’ article

These are typical situations in which a Spanish speaker tends to use THE but it is not correct. Don’t use the…

– When you are speaking in general (with plural and uncountable nouns).

Women talk more than men.

I don’t like spiders.

– With some nouns like: home, work, school, church after preposition of place.

She’s not at home today.

My wife is in hospital.

– Before meals, days and months.

I have breakfast late on Sundays.

We go on holidays in July.

– Before next/ last + days, week, etc when referring to future actions.

I can’t go to class next week.
