Daily grind

For most of us it is time to return to the daily grind.

Grind as a verb means reducing to small particles by crushing or sharpening by friction. As a noun it can also mean dull and hard work.

Thus the expression ‘return to the daily grind’ means starting your everyday work routine. For example: After two weeks in Venice it was hard to return to the daily grind.
