Is that what you mean?

I am going to start a new section in which I want to collect common mistakes that Spanish people make when using English due to the influence of our mother tongue.

I want to start this category by mentioning a book that I like a lot. It is called ‘Is that what you mean?‘ and it contains 100 common mistakes and how to correct them. The author uses pictures to explain the origin of that mistake so it is easy to remember and at the end of the sections you have some exercises to practise.

The author is Paul Hancock and it was published by Penguin. The bad news is that it is currently unavailable but there are some power point presentations on the net with the contents of the book.

There are some other books published by Cambridge with mistakes divided into degrees: ‘Common mistakes at First Certificate’, ‘Common mistakes at CAE’, ‘Common mistakes at Proficiency’ that are also interesting to have a look at.
